Be realistic about the distance

Five hours after a flight is a long day. Two things are worth considering: Marsa Alam airport is around 90 minutes from Sharm El Luli rather than five hours, so if your flights are not yet booked that is the better arrival point. And if you are already committed to Hurghada, an overnight there before continuing south makes the journey considerably more humane.

• The beach area itself has minimal facilities - bring shade, snorkeling gear and everything else you expect to need.
• Arrange your return before you travel. There is no transport to find on the spot down here.
