Sindbad Submarine Hurghada - 22 Meters Down

Sindbad is an actual submarine. It submerges, it has a pressure hull, and it takes you down to around 22 meters below the surface of the Red Sea. This distinguishes it from every semi-submarine trip in Hurghada, all of which stay on the surface with their viewing deck a couple of meters under.

At 22 meters you are on the reef wall at the depth a diver would be, looking out through a porthole, in shirtsleeves.

How the trip works

We collect you from your hotel in an air-conditioned private vehicle. A boat takes you out to the submarine, which is moored offshore, and you transfer across. Each passenger has their own porthole with a seat - nobody is left craning over someone's shoulder. A private guide accompanies the group and narrates the descent and the reef outside.

The whole outing runs around 3 hours, with lunch and drinks and all service charges and taxes included.

Who this is for

Anyone who wants to see the reef at depth without diving: non-swimmers, children, older travelers, and people who are curious about diving but not ready to try it. It is also a genuinely good option on a rough day, when snorkeling trips are unpleasant and everything below the surface is still calm.

Good to know before you book

• The cabin is enclosed and you descend for a sustained period. If you are strongly claustrophobic, this is not the trip for you - take the semi-submarine instead, which stays at the surface.
• Photography through a porthole is difficult. Turn your flash off entirely, or it will bounce straight back off the glass.
• Transfers are included from hotels inside Hurghada; a $5 per person supplement applies from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Ahyaa, El Gouna and Soma Bay.
• Video services and any extras not listed are not included.
• The transfer from boat to submarine involves a step across moving decks. Tell us in advance if anyone needs assistance.
