Petra Day Tour from Dahab

Petra is close to Dahab on a map and complicated to reach in practice: it is in another country, across a gulf, and the logistics defeat most independent travelers with only a few days on the Sinai coast. This trip handles all of it.

You cross from Taba Heights to Aqaba by fast boat, transfer to an air-conditioned coach, and drive up to Petra with a licensed English-speaking guide. You come back the same way the same day.

What you will see

You walk in through the Siq, a natural fissure over a kilometer long with walls rising more than a hundred meters on either side. It opens without warning onto the Treasury - and no photograph prepares anyone for the scale of it. Beyond that the site continues for kilometers: the Street of Facades, the Roman theater carved into rock, the royal tombs along the eastern cliff.

Petra was built by the Nabataeans, who controlled the incense trade routes and understood water in a way that let a city of thousands survive in a desert canyon. Your guide will show you the channels cut into the Siq walls - the part most visitors walk straight past.

• You are entering Jordan. Bring your passport - it must be valid, and it must be the physical document. Entry requirements depend on your nationality, so confirm yours with us in advance and we will tell you exactly what applies.
• The day runs around 18 hours. It is a genuinely long day and not the right choice for anyone who tires easily.
• Expect 4 to 6 kilometers of walking on uneven ground, much of it in full sun. Proper shoes, a hat and water are not optional.
• Horse and carriage rides inside the site are operated locally. Tips for the horse handlers are not included and are expected.
• Lunch is included; extras ordered at lunch are not.
• Sea conditions can affect the boat crossing. If it is cancelled for safety, we will tell you as early as we can.
