Hurghada
A semi-submarine sits low in the water with an observation deck below the surface, so you look straight out at the reef through wide windows while staying completely dry. This trip runs two hours over reef close to Hurghada, and it includes snorkeling equipment as well - so you can do either, or both.
That combination is why it suits mixed groups. One half of a family can be in the water with a mask while the other half watches the same fish from a padded seat in the shade.
Hard and soft coral, and the standard cast of the Red Sea: butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish grazing audibly on the coral, sergeant majors, and often a moray tucked into the reef. The windows are large enough that you are not fighting for a view.
The trip lasts two hours from the marina. Snorkeling equipment, a life jacket and a snorkeling guide are included, along with hot drinks on board and all service charges and taxes. If you want to snorkel, the guide gets in with you.
Coral is a living animal, not rock. Do not touch it, stand on it, or break pieces off - a colony takes decades to grow back what a single careless fin stroke removes.
$15 per person (regular price $20), including the two-hour semi-submarine trip, snorkeling equipment, life jacket, guide, hot drinks and taxes.
