Blue Hole Dahab Diving (Certified Divers)

The Blue Hole is a submerged sinkhole in the reef just north of Dahab, roughly 130 meters deep, connected to open sea by a tunnel known as the Arch at around 55 meters. It is one of the most famous dive sites in the world and it has a reputation that is entirely deserved in both directions: the diving is superb, and the site has killed a significant number of people.

Let us be completely clear about what this trip is and is not

This is recreational diving within recreational limits. You will dive the rim of the hole and the neighboring Bells site, following the wall through spectacular coral with the drop-off falling away into blue beneath you. It is a beautiful, calm, straightforward dive when done properly.

We do not dive the Arch. Crossing the Arch is a deep technical dive requiring specific training, mixed gas and equipment configuration that recreational divers do not have. Nearly every fatality here involved someone attempting it without that training. No guide of ours will take you through it, and you should be extremely suspicious of anyone who offers.

Requirements

• You must hold at least an Advanced Open Water certification, or the equivalent from another agency.
• Bring your certification card and logbook.
• Tell us about any medical condition, medication or recent illness. If you are unsure, get a diving medical before you travel.
• Do not fly within 24 hours of diving.

How the day runs

Pickup is from your hotel in Dahab in an air-conditioned car, and the day runs about 7 hours. A dive instructor guides you throughout and all equipment is included. Lunch and drinks are served at one of the camps overlooking the site - the shaded cushion seating right on the water is part of the experience.

Good to know before you book

• Entry is a shore entry over rock and coral rubble. Reef boots are strongly recommended.
• Visibility is usually excellent and the site is sheltered from most wind directions.
• Transfers within Dahab are included; pickup from outside Dahab carries a $5 per person supplement.
• Photography and video services are not included.
