The SeaScope is not a submarine in the strict sense - it does not dive. It is a boat with an observation cabin below the waterline, fitted with large panoramic windows and swiveling chairs. You sit in air conditioning, at eye level with the reef, and the coral goes past outside the glass.
That design solves a real problem. Plenty of visitors want to see the Red Sea reef but cannot or would rather not snorkel - young children, older travelers, anyone uneasy in open water, or people who simply do not want to spend the afternoon damp and salty. This trip gives them the same view.
We collect you from your hotel by coach and bring you back afterwards. Once on board you go down into the cabin, and the boat moves slowly over reef that has been chosen for exactly this - shallow enough for light to reach it, dense enough that there is always something in the window. Soft drinks, bottled water, tea and coffee are served on board, and all taxes are included.
Partway through there is a short snorkeling stop for anyone who wants it. Getting in is entirely optional; most people stay put, and that is fine.
If you do get into the water, do not touch or stand on the coral. It looks like rock and it is not - it is a living colony, and a single footprint destroys years of growth. Our crew will show you where it is safe to swim.
$15 per person (regular price $18), including hotel transfers by coach, drinks on board and all taxes.
