Senzo Mall opened in 2009 on a site of around 170,000 square meters and is still the largest shopping centre on the Red Sea coast. It is fully air-conditioned, and on a July afternoon in Hurghada that single fact makes it one of the more sensible places to be.
What is inside
International and Egyptian retail brands, a large supermarket, a cinema showing films in original language with Arabic subtitles, a food court, cafes, and an entertainment area for children. There are also phone shops, pharmacies, opticians and the everyday services that are genuinely useful when something goes wrong on holiday.
Who it suits
Three groups get real value out of it:
- Families on a hot afternoon. Between noon and four in summer, outdoor sightseeing is unpleasant. The mall is cool, safe, and has enough to occupy children for a few hours.
- Anyone who forgot something. Sunscreen, swimwear, chargers, medicines, a suitcase to replace the one that broke — all in one place, at fixed prices with no bargaining required.
- Self-catering guests. The supermarket is the best-stocked in the city.
Fixed prices, and why that matters
Everything here is priced and labelled. After a few days of negotiating in the bazaars that is either a relief or a disappointment depending on your temperament, but it does mean you can compare prices honestly and know you are not being quoted a tourist rate.
The cinema
Films are generally shown in their original language with Arabic subtitles, which makes it a straightforward option for an English-speaking evening. Tickets cost a fraction of European prices. Check the schedule the same day — timings change.
Practical advice
- Opening hours run late, typically until around midnight, and later at weekends. Egyptian shopping happens in the evening.
- Friday is the weekend day and the mall is at its busiest.
- Ramadan changes everything — quiet during the day, extremely busy after sunset.
- Getting there: Senzo is inland from the main hotel strip. A taxi from most hotels is short and cheap; agree the fare first, and arrange your return or ask the driver to wait.
- Cards are accepted in most stores, though carrying some cash is always wise.
Senzo is not why anyone comes to Hurghada. It is simply useful — on a hot day, a rainy one, or when a holiday needs something the hotel cannot supply.
