Soma Bay

Soma Bay occupies its own peninsula about 45 km south of Hurghada Airport, and it is the most self-contained of the Red Sea resort areas. Roughly 10 square kilometers of development on a headland with water on three sides, built around golf, kitesurfing, diving and a large thalasso spa.

The setting is the appeal. Because it is a peninsula, there is water in almost every direction and a long shallow lagoon on the sheltered side that has made it one of Egypt's better kitesurfing spots. The championship golf course runs along the coast. Offshore, the reefs are quiet, and Tobia Arbaa — a cluster of coral pinnacles rising from a sandy bottom — is within easy reach.

What we run from Soma Bay

Private transfers to and from Hurghada Airport and the city. Our Hurghada excursions — the island days, the desert safaris, the Cairo and Luxor tours — will collect from Soma Bay for a $5 per person supplement.

Practical notes

  • There is no taxi rank and very little passing traffic. Book your transfers in both directions before you travel — this is the single most common problem guests have here.
  • Travelling with golf clubs or a kite board bag? Say so when booking a transfer so we send a vehicle that takes them properly.
  • The peninsula is about 50 minutes from the airport, and there is nothing between it and Safaga.
